Hillaria® Anti-Adhesion Barrier Gel

Hillaria® Anti-Adhesion Barrier Gel

Hillaria® contains 100 mg of cross-linked hyaluronic acid in a 5 mL single-use prefilled syringe.
Hillaria® is indicated for laparotomic or laparoscopic abdominal interventions and hysteroscopic interventions to reduce post-surgical adhesion formation.

Hillaria®, which contains cross-linked hyaluronic acid, is highly resistant to degradation and effectively helps prevent adhesion formation during the critical early period for adhesion prevention.

Product Information

What is Hillaria®?

Hillaria® is a biodegradable, sterile, transparent, highly viscous gel obtained by cross-linked hyaluronic acid which is used as an anti-adhesion barrier gel.

How is the mechanism of action of Hillaria®?

Hillaria® forms a physical barrier between damaged tissues, preventing them from adhering to each other during the wound healing process.

What are the indications of Hillaria®?

Hillaria® is indicated for laparotomic or laparoscopic abdominal interventions and hysteroscopic interventions to reduce post-surgical adhesion formation.

How should Hillaria® be administered?
  1. After bringing the product to room temperature, open the pouch and transfer the syringe into the sterile field, adopting the normal aseptic techniques used in surgical theatres.
  2. Remove the protective cap on the tip of the syringe and insert the cannula/applicator.
  3. After aspiration of all irrigation fluid, apply the gel inside to completely cover all anatomical sites where adhesion prevention is desired. It is recommended to apply a 1–2 mm thick layer of gel.
  4. Do not irrigate after application of the product.

Note: Do not attempt to reposition gel once applied, and do not apply additional layers of gel on top of one another.

What does the packaging of Hillaria® contain?
  • One sterile 5 mL syringe of Hillaria®
  • One 23-centimeter cannula
  • Leaflet
  • Set of tracking labels
What are the advantages of Hillaria®?
  • Safety: Biodegradable and bioabsorbable gel, proven safe in many studies due to the natural nature of hyaluronic acid.
  • Effectiveness: Prevents adhesions after both open and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
  • Stability: Prevents the formation of adhesions following surgery in the critical period (5–7 days) and also prevents delayed adhesions.
  • Ease of Use: Easily attached to tissue surfaces and the abdominal wall without sutures, creating an anti-adhesion barrier.
How is the storage condition of Hillaria®?
  • Do not freeze or expose to extreme heat.
  • Store the product at a temperature between 2°C to 25°C.
  • Freezing of the product can result in severe bubble formation. Do not use the product in this case.
  • The content is fragile.
  • Shelf life is 2 years, correctly preserved.
What is the important safety information about Hillaria®?
  • No clinical data are currently available to confirm the safety and performance of cross-linked hyaluronic acid regarding resections involving anastomosis sites.
  • Should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid and gram-positive bacteria, or with active infection or contamination of the surgical site.
  • Used only under surgical aseptic conditions by a licensed medical practitioner.
  • Once the package is opened, discard any remaining gel after use.

The cross-linking of several strands of linear hyaluronic acid forms cross-linked hyaluronic acid.
This structure makes the hyaluronic acid molecule less prone to degradation by the body’s enzymes. Therefore, cross-linked hyaluronic acid has a higher molecular weight, enhanced stability, and longer persistence than linear hyaluronic acid.
Linear hyaluronic acid is converted into cross-linked hyaluronic acid in a laboratory environment under specific temperature and pH conditions using special materials known as cross-linkers.

Various studies have shown that the injection of cross-linked hyaluronic acid plays an effective role in preventing adhesions following abdominal and pelvic surgeries.
