Avenile® - Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose 2% (HPMC)

Avenile® is a sterile, isotonic, non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution of highly purified 2% hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC).
Avenile® is supplied in a 2 mL syringe. Each mL provides 20 mg of HPMC.
Avenile® is indicated for use as an ophthalmic surgical aid in anterior segment surgical procedures, including cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation. Avenile® maintains a deep chamber during anterior segment surgery, thereby allowing for more efficient manipulation with less trauma to the corneal endothelium and other ocular tissues.

What is Avenile®?

Avenile® is a sterile non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution of highly purified, high molecular weight hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.

How is the mechanism of action of Avenile®?

Avenile® maintains the chamber’s depth during anterior segment surgery, thus allowing for more efficient
manipulation with less trauma to the corneal endothelium and other ocular tissues.

What are the ingredients of Avenile®?

Avenile® is supplied in 2 mL syringes. Each mL provides 20 mg of HPMC dissolved in a physiological balanced salt solution containing 0.49% sodium chloride, 0.075% potassium chloride, 0.048% calcium chloride, %0.03 magnesium chloride, 0.39% sodium acetate, 0.17% sodium citrate, and water for injection.

What are the indications of Avenile®?

Avenile® is indicated for use as an ophthalmic surgical aid in anterior segment surgical procedures, including cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation.

How should Avenile® be administered?

Avenile® is injected into the eye by a specialist doctor using a sterile cannula during eye surgeries.

What does the packaging of Avenile® contain?

Each package of Avenile® contains one sterile prefilled syringe of 2 ml, one sterile disposable cannula, and a leaflet.

How is the storage condition of Avenile®?

Avenile® should be stored between 2-25°C and protected from extreme heat (60°C) and light.

If placed in the refrigerator, it should be placed at room temperature for about 20 minutes before use.

Shelf life is two years, correctly preserved.

What is the important safety information about Avenile®?
  • After surgery, a temporary increase in intraocular pressure may occur, which may be due to the presence of previous glaucoma in the eye or the surgery itself.
  • The product should be removed from the anterior chamber of the eye at the end of the surgery to prevent an increase in intraocular pressure after the operation.
  • If the sterile packaging is open or damaged, the product should not be used.
  • If the color of the solution has changed or it has become cloudy, it should not be used.
  • The unused contents of the syringe should be discarded after a single use.
  • The cannula should not be reused.
