Avenile®

Avenile® is a sterile, isotonic, non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution of highly purified, noninflammatory, 2% HPMC with a high molecular weight greater than 80000 daltons. Each mL provides 20 mg of HPMC dissolved in a physiological balanced salt solution. The osmolarity of Avenile® is 285±32 mOsm, the viscosity of 4000±1500 cP, and the pH of 7.2±0.4. Avenile® is considered for use as an ophthalmic surgical aid in anterior segment surgical procedures, including cataract extraction and the implantation of an intraocular lens. Avenile® maintains a deep chamber during anterior segment surgery, thereby allowing for more efficient manipulation with less trauma to the corneal endothelium and other ocular tissues. Each package of Avenile® contains one prefilled syringe of 2ml, one sterile disposable needle, a leaflet and a set of tracking labels.

FAQ

What is Avenile®?

Avenile® is a sterile non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution of highly purified, high molecular weight hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.

How is the mechanism of action of Avenile®?

Avenile® maintains the chamber’s depth during anterior segment surgery, thereby allowing for more efficient manipulation with less trauma to the corneal endothelium and other ocular tissues.

What are the ingredients of Avenile®?

Avenile® is supplied in 2 mL syringes. Each mL provides 20 mg of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose dissolved in a physiological balanced salt solution containing 0.49% sodium chloride, 0.075% potassium chloride, 0.048% calcium chloride, 0.03% magnesium chloride, 0.39% sodium acetate, 0.17% sodium citrate and water for injection. The osmolarity of Avenile® is 285±32 mOsm, the viscosity is 4000±1500 cP, and the PH is 7.2±0.4.

What are the indications/is the indication of Avenile®?

Avenile® is indicated for use as an ophthalmic surgical aid in anterior segment surgical procedures, including cataract extraction and intraocular lens implementation.

How Avenile® should be administered?

Avenile® is injected into the eye by a specialist doctor using a sterile cannula during eye surgeries.

What does the packaging of Avenile® contain?

Each package of Avenile® contains one sterile prefilled syringe of 2 ml, one sterile disposable cannula, and a leaflet.

What are the advantages of Avenile®?

Avenile® is a space-occupying, tissue-protective substance which has an average molecular weight greater than 80,000 Daltons, and is non-antigenic and non-pyrogenic. It does not cause foreign body reactions, and is well tolerated in the eye. It does not interfere with the normal wound healing process. It exhibits excellent flow properties, is completely transparent and easily removed from the anterior chamber. It also clears the trabecular meshwork in 24 hours (98% clearance rate).

How is the storage condition of Avenile®?

Avenile® should be stored between 2-25°C and protected from extreme heat (60°C) and light. If placed in the refrigerator, it should be placed at room temperature for about 20 minutes before use.

What is the important safety information about Avenile®?

  • After surgery, a temporary increase in intraocular pressure may occur, which may be due to the presence of previous glaucoma in the eye or the surgery itself.
  • The product should be removed from the anterior chamber of the eye at the end of the surgery to prevent the increase of intraocular pressure after the operation.
  • If the sterile packaging is open or damaged, the product should not be used.
  • If the color of the solution has changed or it has become cloudy, it should not be used.
  • The unused contents of the syringe should be discarded after a single use.
  • The cannula should not be reused.
